Mr.Williams' practice focuses on all areas of environmental law. He regularly defends clients in class actions, toxic torts, nuisance and trespass suits, land use disputes, EPA and state administrative actions, and citizen suits. He also advises multiple industries with environmental compliance and permitting issues before state and federal regulatory agencies. In addition, Mr. Williams supports the firm's real estate and corporate practice groups by assessing potential environmental risks and opportunities associated with business transactions as well as provides guidance to the governmental affairs practice group with respect to proposed environmental legislation and regulations.

  • Representing landowner in zoning action filed by county in Tennessee.
  • Defending biosolids company in class action related to alleged PFC contamination in several Alabama counties.
  • Currently representing client in RCRA enforcement action filed by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
  • Representing petroleum pipeline company in property damage suit associated with groundwater contamination beneath industrial park.
  • Defending cement production facility in personal injury and property damage suit filed by over 400 plaintiffs and minors.
  • Representing public corporation in Clean Water Act citizen suit alleging violations of state stormwater regulations.
  • Defending national company in toxic tort suit alleging surface water and air contamination from landfill operations.
  • Assisting client with development of park and associated constructed wetlands for treating stormwater runoff from upstream watershed.
  • Representing Fortune 500 manufacturing company in multiple suits brought by 1000+ adjacent property owners alleging air contamination.
  • Successfully negotiated with ADEM to reduce penalties associated with an administrative order issued to client for alleged violations at a wastewater treatment lagoon.
  • Assisted in defending national company in criminal Clean Water Act investigation and trials brought by the U.S. Department of Justice Environmental Crimes Section.
  • Coordinated and evaluated environmental assessments conducted as part of the acquisition of a hazardous waste transportation company.
  • Represented petroleum pipeline company in toxic tort suits brought by adjacent property owners alleging groundwater and gasoline vapor contamination.
  • Assisted in coordinating and advising client during multimedia environmental audits at all of client's manufacturing facilities.
  • Successfully negotiated the early closure of a RCRA Section 3013 Administration Order and represented client in fulfilling obligations under a separate RCRA Section 3007 Administration Order, both issued by EPA Region IV.
  • Advised client and assisted in negotiating legislation affecting water withdrawal rights.

Prior to attending law school and joining Maynard Cooper, Mr. Williams worked as a project manager for an environmental consulting firm in Birmingham, Alabama.
