Tres is a Shareholder and serves as Chair of the Education practice at Maynard Cooper. He is also a member of several practices in the the firm’s Litigation section.
He defends for-profit educational institutions across the country in class actions, student claims, attorney general and other regulatory reviews, arbitration enforcement, vendor contact disputes, real estate litigation and personal injury cases. Tres has litigation experience in more than 20 states and has arbitrated more than 40 student claims.
Tres also has extensive experience defending insurance companies in complex litigation. He frequently litigates class actions, IRS Section 412(i) and Section 419 plans, stranger owned life insurance (STOLI) policies, insurance-based retirement plans, ERISA issues and a variety of bad faith and contestable claims. He has represented insurance companies in various jurisdictions in more than 15 states including Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
His work as a litigator garnered recognition from Alabama Super Lawyers, who listed Tres as a “Rising Star – Civil Litigation Defense.”
He received his J.D. cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Law and holds a B.B.A. summa cum laude from Mississippi State University.
