Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. Welcomes New Associates Kara Garstecki and Catherine Crowe


Birmingham, Ala. – Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. is pleased to announce that Catherine Phillips Crowe and Kara Massey Garstecki have joined the firm as new associates. Ms. Crowe is a member of the labor and employment and immigration practice groups, and Ms. Garstecki will practice with the firm’s real estate, commercial lending and energy and natural resources practice groups.

Catherine Phillips Crowe assists in all aspects of representing management in a wide variety of EEO and employment matters, including cases arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other analogous state discrimination and tort laws. She also has experience with employment matters faced by financial institutions and has assisted with FINRA and JAMS arbitrations with respect to employment-related matters brought against brokerage firms, in addition to representing employers in matters before the NLRB. Ms. Crowe also is part of the firm’s growing immigration practice and can assist clients in obtaining temporary and permanent work visas for the hiring of foreign nationals. Ms. Crowe is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association.

Ms. Crowe graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University where she was a recipient of the John Harvard Honorary Scholarship. She then attended the London School of Economics and Political Science where she graduated with distinction. Ms. Crowe received her juris doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law where she was managing editor of the Law and Psychology Review, and a member of the International Criminal Court Moot Court Team and the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society. She was also a recipient of the Harold A. Bowron, Jr. Labor & Employment Law Award.

Kara Massey Garstecki assists in all aspects of the representation of buyers, sellers, developers, landlords and tenants in all types of real estate matters, including acquisition, development, financing and leasing matters. Ms. Garstecki aids in the representation of lenders and borrowers in real estate and commercial lending transactions including acquisition and construction lending, permanent loans and refinancings in secured and unsecured transactions. She also assists in the representation of clients in mining and mineral transactions, medical office and commercial office transactions, and hospital and other medical facility transactions. Ms. Garstecki is a member of the Alabama and Tennessee State Bar Associations and the American Bar Association.

Ms. Garstecki graduated from the University of Alabama with distinction. She then received her Masters in Tax Accounting also from the University of Alabama. She received her juris doctor from Cumberland School of Law where she was a member of the Executive Board of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy and a recipient of the William Thomas McHugh & Lou Gower McHugh Scholarship, the George M. Stewart Banking Award, and the Cumberland School of Law Spirit of Service Award.
