These presidential centers have partnered to bring together a select group of leaders who have the desire and capacity to take their leadership strengths to a higher level in order to help their communities and our country.
Maynard Cooper to Host First “Life at a Law Firm” Event
Thirty participants representing every law school in Alabama are slated to attend Maynard Cooper & Gale’s first ever Life at a Law Firm event this Friday, February 20, 2015.
The half-day event is designed to introduce diverse first-year law students to the private sector practice of law as they evaluate their respective career paths. The program also provides students a unique opportunity to network with other area law students, refine their interviewing skills, and talk one-on-one with practicing lawyers. This experience will give students the skills to secure and succeed in summer internships as well as a better understanding of law firm structure, management, lawyer compensation, practice areas and life as an associate at a law firm. A networking reception concludes the event.
Maynard Cooper’s Diversity Committee organized the program.

Maynard Cooper Offers its 7th Annual Minority Scholars LSAT Prep Course
Maynard Cooper & Gale PC is pleased to offer its Seventh Annual Minority Scholars LSAT Prep Course, beginning in April. The Prep Course is geared to highly-motivated undergraduate minority students who intend to pursue a career in law. Offered in an interactive group setting with approximately 10 students, the class will focus on LSAT strategies and methods covering every skill tested on the June 8, 2015 LSAT exam. The course will be provided to qualified students selected by the firm. Students’ acceptance into the program will be based on college GPA, resume and personal statement.
“We are thrilled to be hosting this program for the seventh straight year,” said Kathie Weber, Co-Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. “It is an honor to work with the students as they prepare to embark on the journey of law school.”
The LSAT Prep Course provides complete preparation by KAPLAN test prep instructors and KAPLAN’s nationally-recognized review materials. The expert instructors will be teaching through a live virtual classroom, with the opportunity for teacher/student interaction. Maynard Cooper will cover the students’ costs for the KAPLAN LSAT Test Prep Course, in addition to providing the classroom facilities and the study materials for each student. The firm will also reimburse students for the LSAT registration fee, contingent on students’ high attendance and submissions of test scores after taking the LSAT exam.

Janine McAdory Named to National Black Lawyers Top 100
Maynard Cooper & Gale PC proudly recognizes Janine McKinnon McAdory being named to the National Black Lawyers Top 100 list for 2015.
“Janine is a rising star in our midst – both in the firm and in our community,” said Kathie Weber, Chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “An active member of our Diversity Committee, Janine has taken on responsibility for our new Life at a Law Firm program; and has played a vital role in the success of our Minority Scholars LSAT Prep Course program.”
The invitation-only professional honorary organization recognizes the top 100 black lawyers in each state and is “comprised of America’s top attorneys who represent individuals, families and businesses in the American legal system.” Membership in the National Black Lawyers Top 100 is recognition of “superior qualifications of leadership, reputation, influence and performance in their area of legal practice.”
McAdory is an associate with Maynard Cooper’s Insurance & Financial Services Litigation and Intellectual Property Litigation practices. She was previously recognized as an “Outstanding Attorney” by Birmingham Magazine’s Best in Minority Business Awards.

Anthony Joseph Elected to Alabama Power Board of Directors
Maynard Cooper congratulates Shareholder Anthony “AJ” Joseph on his recent election of the Board of Directors of Alabama Power.
Joseph joins Dr. Cathy Randall as the newest members of the company’s board.
“We are proud and honored to welcome Dr. Randall and Mr. Joseph to our board,” said Alabama Power Chairman, President and CEO Mark Crosswhite in a release. “They each bring a lifetime of excellence and integrity to our company. They are leaders in their fields and highly respected by their peers.”
Joseph is Co-Chair of the White Collar Criminal practice at Maynard Cooper. He has a long and distinguished career in the legal field. He first served as an Assistant District Attorney for Jefferson County, Ala. before joining the FBI as a Special Agent working in Birmingham, St. Louis and Philadelphia. Upon his return to Birmingham he worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney before entering private practice as an attorney. He joined Maynard Cooper in 2006.
He was the 2013-2014 President of the Alabama State Bar, a former Alabama State Bar Commissioner, and Vice President of the Alabama State Bar, a past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section, and is currently a member of its White Collar Crime Committee.
