Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions Associate / Of Counsel
The Firm’s Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions practice group is seeking to hire Associate, Of Counsel, and Shareholder attorneys with 4-10 years of experience in this practice area. Qualified candidates will have at least three years of experience in Mergers & Acquisitions advising public and/or private companies. Candidates must have excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills as well as excellent academic credentials. The Firm is open to hiring in offices outside of its Alabama offices (including in its California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, New York, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. offices), as well as remote work arrangements.

Corporate Associates
The Firm is seeking to hire a junior associate for its Corporate group. Qualified candidates will have two to three years’ experience advising public and/or private companies (including startup and emerging growth companies), and investors in such companies, in capital transactions, corporate governance matters, and mergers and acquisition activity. Candidates must have excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills as well as excellent academic credentials. The Firm is open to hiring in offices outside of its Alabama offices, as well as remote work arrangements.

Correctional Litigation Attorney – Huntsville, AL
The Firm is seeking to hire an attorney with 4-7 years of litigation experience. The ideal candidate will engage in all aspects of our complex litigation practice which entails large institutional civil rights reform actions, including preparation of motions and briefs, responding to discovery, and preparation for hearings and trials.

Cybersecurity & Privacy Associate – Open to all offices
The Firm is seeking to hire an associate with 4-5 years of experience to add additional depth to the Cybersecurity & Privacy practice group in the areas of compliance and litigation. Representative matters include performance of risk assessments, data breach response, regulatory investigations, and privacy litigation.

Environmental Attorney - Mobile, AL
The Firm is seeking to hire an Environmental Attorney with at least 4 years of experience in regulatory compliance preferably with experience in due diligence for corporate matters. Associate would ideally be located in Mobile, AL, but other offices/remote work may be considered.

Insurance & Financial Services Litigation Associate Birmingham, AL; Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA
The Firm is seeking to hire an associate with 3-5 years of experience in first-party insurance bad faith litigation. Candidates must have excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills as well as excellent academic credentials. The ideal candidate will engage in all aspects of our complex practice, which entails both litigation and counseling services to geographic and industry-diverse employers.

Litigation Staff Attorney – Mobile, AL
The Firm is seeking to hire a Staff Attorney in the Mobile office to assist the Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have 1-4 years of litigation experience, and be able to write briefs, attend court hearings, take depositions and assist with trials.

Patent Litigation Associate – Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA
The Firm is seeking to hire a patent litigation associate for our Los Angeles or San Francisco offices. Qualified applicants must have prior work experience in patent litigation, excellent writing and academic achievement, and show an ability to work independently and handle direct responsibility for client work. A technical degree is preferred.

Public Company Securities Associate
The Firm is seeking to hire a mid- to senior-level associate attorney for its Public Company Advisory practice group. This is a dynamic practice group with a strong “team mentality,” and they are looking to add a member who is excited about continuing to grow the practice. Qualified candidates will have at least three years of experience advising public companies on Exchange Act reporting, capital markets transactions, disclosure requirements, shareholder activism, stock exchange listing standards, and ESG and general corporate governance matters. Candidates must have excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills as well as excellent academic credentials. While the Firm would prefer for the candidate to be located in its Birmingham, Alabama office, the Firm is open to hiring an experienced associate in another office (including in its Florida, Georgia, Iowa, New York, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. offices), and is also willing to consider remote work arrangements.

Privacy Associate – Open to all offices or remote position
The Firm is seeking to hire a senior associate with 5-8 years of experience in privacy compliance. Ideal candidates should have experience performing privacy risk assessments, developing privacy programs and policies, and conducting privacy-focused diligence in corporate transactions

Securities Litigation Associate – Birmingham, AL
The Securities Litigation Practice Group is seeking to hire an associate with 2-4 years of litigation experience. Primary role will be to handle customer cases in FINRA arbitrations. Experience handling FINRA arbitrations or other financial services litigation is a plus. Associate would ideally be located in Birmingham, AL, but other offices/remote work may be considered.

Trusts, Estates, Fiduciaries, and Family Business (TEFF)
The Firm is seeking to hire associates to mid-level shareholders with experience in estate planning, estate and trust administration, and business succession planning (sales and recapitalizations, buy-sells, and succession planning for family and other closely-held businesses). Experience is required in at least one of these areas; LLM in Taxation preferred but not required. Candidates will be considered for the Birmingham, Huntsville, and Nashville offices.

Law Students

Our summer program is the hiring ground for the large majority of our new lawyers. The program is designed to provide in-depth insight into the Firm, our lawyers, our clients, and the Firm’s role in the community. We attempt to familiarize summer clerks with all areas of our practice, both through weekly seminars conducted by our lawyers and by exposing them to client conferences, depositions, closings, and court appearances.

The summer program includes a number of social and recreational events that enable summer clerks and lawyers to become better acquainted. Most of our summer events are designed to help familiarize our summer clerks with the cities where our offices are located, showing them all that those areas have to offer. Events range from small dinner gatherings in the homes of our attorneys to an annual lake trip that promises plenty of food and fun!

Each summer clerk is assigned to a shareholder and an associate, who serve as mentors throughout the clerk’s time at the Firm. Each clerk is encouraged to specify which practice area he or she prefers. Upon arrival, and throughout their clerkship, the summer clerks are given the opportunity to choose their own assignments from a project database, allowing for as much or as little diversity as the clerk would like.

Hiring Criteria

Maynard Cooper bases its initial hiring decisions on campus and office interviews. Although academic excellence is extremely important in making hiring decisions, other factors are taken into consideration, as well. Interpersonal skills and extra-curricular activities also weigh heavily in the hiring process. We seek students who have excelled in their law school classes, and we look favorably upon students who participate in law review or other academically challenging activities.

Maynard Law Prep

Maynard Law Prep, launched in 2021, seeks to identify diverse undergraduate talent who reflect the potential to be candidates for our summer clerkship program upon entering law school. The ideal candidate is a current student or recent graduate from an accredited 4-year college or university considering law school or wants to learn more about the legal profession.

Maynard Law Prep is designed to provide: (1) insight into the legal industry, (2) an overview of the structure and history of the firm, (3) exposure to our attorneys and other diverse lawyers and community leaders, and (4) an understanding of the firm’s role in the legal and broader community. The program will be executed much like the summer clerkship program. It will familiarize the pre-law interns with various areas of practice through weekly seminars offering them practical work experiences. Upon arrival and throughout the program, the interns will have the opportunity to work on a variety of legal projects, providing exposure to practice groups throughout the firm.

Our 2022 Maynard Law Prep program will be based out of the firm’s Birmingham office and run from May 9, 2022 – June 3, 2022. The program seeks students who have excelled academically. We will look favorably upon students engaged outside the classroom in extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities and/or positions of leadership.

All interested applicants should submit: (1) a completed application form, (2) an undergraduate transcript, (3) an updated resume’, and (4) a personal statement by Monday, February 28, 2022. Based on these submissions, we will select a group of candidates to interview. These interviews will be held in March 2022. Interns will be notified regarding selection for the program promptly following the completion of interviews.
