DRAYTON NABERS JR. RECEIVES THE BIRMINGHAM BAR ASSOCIATION'S 2011 L. BURTON BARNES III PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD
Drayton Nabers Jr. has a notable record of community and professional service. He is currently Chairman of Cornerstone Schools of Alabama and the National Foundation for Computer Crime Prevention. In addition, he is a former Chairman of the United Way of Central Alabama and Leadership Birmingham, to name just a few. Outside the office, Nabers is an Adjunct Instructor at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School. He has authored two books, The Case for Character and The Hidden Key to Happiness. Nabers is also on the Board of Directors of numerous companies and organizations. Nabers is currently a shareholder at Maynard. He has a distinguished career which spans 50 years and includes serving as the former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice, an accomplished businessman and a successful attorney. Nabers began his career practicing law at another Birmingham firm for 12 years. He then joined Protective Life Corporation in 1979, where he served first as General Counsel and later as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 2002. He was subsequently appointed Finance Director for the State of Alabama by Governor Bob Riley. Nabers served in this capacity until his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2004. Given his extensive professional experience, his practice is in multiple areas, including: alternative dispute resolution, appellate law, complex litigation, governmental and regulatory affairs and insurance and financial services litigation.
