Maynard Cooper & Gale Shareholder, John Bolus, was a featured panelist at a recent Regional Insurance Counsel Roundtable in Atlanta. John, who is Co-Chair of the Financial Institutions, Corporate Governance & Fiduciary Litigation Practice at Maynard Cooper, joined the panel “Securities Litigation: Winning Tips and Strategies to Both Protect Insurers and Maximize Recoveries for their Investment Portfolios.” He spoke to new developments in defending against securities litigation in light of current trends and recent court rulings. The panel offered strategic insight to insurance company general counsel on the careful balancing act required when addressing securities litigation.
John has broad experience handling complex civil litigation, including securities class actions and shareholder derivative actions, individual securities arbitrations, individual and class-wide insurance, and annuity cases, and a variety of other types of cases. Those cases have involved allegations of fraud, misappropriation, unfair sales or business practices, and lender liability, as well as complex contractual disputes, appraisal claims, business ownership disputes, and business interference claims. He has defended actions in state and federal courts and before arbitration panels across Alabama, the Southeast, and in many other states across the country, including Delaware. John also has substantial experience in defending regulatory matters and managing investigations.
The Regional Insurance Counsel Roundtable was hosted by the Association of Life Insurance Counsel, the premier association for life insurance counsel dedicated to enhancing the legal representation of the life insurance industry by fostering community and scholarship among its members. ALIC hosts one regional event each year, where industry leaders come together to discuss current legal issues and trends challenging life insurance companies.
