LA KEISHA WRIGHT BUTLER, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE MILWAUKEE FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSION, JOINS MAYNARD

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 1, 2020) — Maynard & Gale is pleased to announce that La Keisha Wright Butler joined Maynard’s Correctional Litigation Practice Group as Of Counsel. She will focus her practice on general and complex litigation. La Keisha has extensive experience representing clients in the areas of governmental affairs, law enforcement, and civil rights litigation.
Prior to joining Maynard, La Keisha served as the Executive Director of the Fire and Police Commission for the City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There she provided guidance on all policies and practices of the city’s police and fire departments. She independently conducted, monitored, and audited police investigations; provided legal review and analysis to identify issues; took proactive measures to minimize litigation in all aspects of personnel management, test development and examinations, hiring and promotions, and disciplinary actions; monitored daily operations; managed an annual budget of approximately $3 million; and supervised a staff of 14.
La Keisha also served as the Legislative Liaison Director and Assistant City Attorney for the City of Milwaukee. Prior to working for the City of Milwaukee, La Keisha was an attorney at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and practiced law at a firm in Louisville, KY.

La Keisha obtained her J.D. from Vanderbilt University and has an L.L.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law. She earned her B.A. from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
