Monday, January 9, 2017
Former General Counsel Jonathan K. Sprole has joined Maynard & Gale as Of Counsel. A graduate of Stanford University and the University of Virginia School of Law, Jon Sprole’s extensive career spans 34 years and includes experience having served in general counsel and senior executive roles for national players like GE Capital and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
“Jon is an accomplished leader with global company experience and we are fortunate to have him join Maynard,” said Greg Curran, Chair of the firm. “Jon joins a growing number of seasoned lateral talent at the firm which is a function of not only the great team of attorneys we have in place but also our sophisticated client base."
Sprole was most recently Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Remington Outdoor Company, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of firearms, ammunition, and related products. His corporate background also includes a stint as General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer for Versa Capital Management, Inc., Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, General Counsel and Managing Director for GE Equity/GE Capital Corporation, and Associate General Counsel for GE Investment Corporation.
“Establishing a West Coast presence has proven to be opportunistic for the firm and attractive to experienced attorneys like Jon,” said Drew Kitchen, Managing Shareholder of the firm’s San Francisco office. “Jon is well connected and his knowledge and direct involvement in the life sciences and private equity investing present a unique resource to our clients, which include some of Silicon Valley’s most creative and disruptive tech companies.”
“The growth and energy of the firm’s national practices like Intellectual Property and Insurance is exciting and I look forward to being a part of it,” said Mr. Sprole.
As a member of Maynard’s Corporate Practice, Sprole will utilize his well-honed skills to advise clients in business management, strategic planning, legal and regulatory compliance matters, as well as other critical areas of business operation. Maynard is a full-service practice affording clients expedient access to a broad range and depth of legal expertise. The Firm’s Corporate Practice is comprised of almost 60 lawyers, with more than 30 focused on mergers and acquisitions, as well as other negotiated transactions and reorganizations, ranging in size from relatively small deals to transactions involving total consideration in the billions of dollars. Clients include nationally known, publicly held companies, as well as private equity firms and privately held companies. The firm’s San Francisco office, in particular, serves clients in technology-focused industries such as wireless, software, medical devices, payment processing, and telecommunications, among others.
“We have always strived to fully understand our clients’ businesses and the industries in which they operate,” adds Kitchen. “It’s a standard we set years ago in order to provide our clients with not only outstanding legal service but also sound business decisions and guidance. Jon’s experience as General Counsel complements this standard and expands our capabilities well beyond the courtrooms and deal tables.”
