MAYNARD ATTRACTS SEASONED TALENT TO LITIGATION PRACTICE
With client service coast to coast in mind, Maynard & Gale is pleased to announce that Stephen Bumgarner, Nicholas “Nick” Boos, and Brandt Hill have joined the Firm’s growing Litigation Section; Stephen and Nick as shareholders and Brandt as an associate. Both Stephen and Brandt will conduct their practice out of the firm’s Birmingham office and Nick in the San Francisco office.
A seasoned litigator with over 25 years of experience, Stephen joins the Firm’s Financial Institutions, Insurance, and Financial Services Litigation practice groups. Stephen has successfully defended complex cases for clients including national banks and financial institutions, short and long-term lenders, mortgage lenders (forward and reverse), and vehicle finance entities. He has a significant courtroom presence, having tried numerous jury and bench trials. At Maynard, Stephen will continue to represent clients in the financial services sector and his practice will encompass business litigation, class actions, and complex commercial disputes. Also, he will represent companies in the service industry and manufacturers in litigation matters. Stephen received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Alabama. Stephen was formerly a partner with Burr & Forman LLP. “For a number of years, I have appreciated the quality and strength of Maynard’s litigation team and the positive results secured for the Firm’s clients in complex matters. Now, I am thankful for the opportunity to practice side-by-side with the firm’s outstanding litigation team in furthering the goals and interests of the firm’s clients in matters across the Southeast,” said Stephen.
With over 12 years of experience, Nick joins the firm’s Insurance and Financial Services Litigation practice group, operating out of the firm’s San Francisco office. Nick represents the insurance industry in complex coverage and bad faith matters in state and federal courts throughout California, and comes to Maynard from Sedgwick LLP. His practice includes representing insurers in disputes involving a variety of policy types, including commercial general liability, first-party property, life, and employment practices, among others. With Maynard, Nick will continue to provide strong litigation expertise to our clients on both the west coast and nationally. “I am excited to join Maynard and look forward to contributing to the growth of the firm’s West Coast practice,” said Nick.
Brandt Hill joins Maynard from Winston & Strawn’s New York City office where he defended several major U.S. and multinational corporations in antitrust class actions, as well as class actions involving price deception and false advertising claims. Brandt’s practice also extends into the professional sports arena where he has garnered experience from representing NFL players in several high-profile arbitrations and subsequent court proceedings challenging player discipline. Brandt earned his J.D. from Tulane University Law School during which time he spent a semester abroad at the Hong Kong University Law School. He holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara where he was a member of the baseball team.
“It is with great excitement that we welcome these lateral talents and we are thrilled they have chosen to join Maynard. Stephen’s depth and understanding of the ever changing financial service industry is impressive and reflective of the credentials we seek to best serve our financial clients,” said Jeff Grantham, Vice-Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of the firm. “As we work to strategically grow our insurance litigation practice, Nick brings to the table strong experience that will benefit our growing San Francisco office and California practice. And finally, Brandt’s first-hand antitrust and consumer class action experience further enhances the already broad scope of our nationally recognized practice group,” added Grantham. “We’re looking forward to combining the talents of these three laterals with our litigation practitioners to continue to provide the best service and value we can to our clients coast to coast.”
