Tuesday, November 22, 2016
Maynard & Gale is pleased to announce that M. Allison Taylor has joined the Firm as a Shareholder. She will practice in the firm’s Corporate, Securities & Tax Practice and the Trusts, Estates and Business Planning Practice groups, and she will serve as Co-Chair of the firm’s Family Business Practice.
Ms. Taylor brings to the firm over 20 years of experience handling all aspects of corporate, tax, estate, and business planning matters. She was formerly a Shareholder with Maynard for nine years before accepting the position of Vice President and General Counsel for Southern Research, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with nearly 500 scientists and engineers engaged in discovery and technology development.
“We are excited that Allison has returned to Maynard,” said Greg Curran, Chair of the Firm. “She is a very talented lawyer with a remarkable passion for the practice of law, particularly when it involves advising closely-held businesses and their owners and executives. Before Allison stepped into a leadership role at Southern Research, she was a leader both in her field and within our firm and we are fortunate to have her back.”
Maynard handles the estate and business planning for some of the state’s largest companies and their executives, including many privately-held and family-owned businesses. Maynard is dedicated to promoting and growing the estate and business planning practice as a critical element in our overall, full-service attention to individual and corporate clients. The firm has 18 attorneys focused on estate, trust and business planning, and fiduciary advisory services - the largest practice group in the State of Alabama. We provide clients with incredible depth and talent, blanketing the state with members of our team located in our Huntsville and Mobile offices, as well as the group located in our Birmingham headquarters.
“Allison has both the credentials and the experience that we were seeking to spearhead the firm’s Family Business Practice,” said Cynthia Lamar-Hart, Chair of the Estate, Trust and Business Planning and Fiduciary Advisory Services Practice groups. “With her background and expertise in both estate planning and business succession planning, as well as her extensive experience serving as outside general counsel to numerous family-owned businesses, Allison is uniquely and ideally suited to advise our clients in the family-owned business sector.” Danny Markstein added, “I’m thrilled to have Allison back on our team. One of the many characteristics that makes Alabama, and Birmingham in particular, so unique is the large number of family-owned and closely-held businesses right here in our own backyard. Allison’s extensive corporate and tax background renders her a unique talent in the Birmingham legal services market, and her skill set will bring added value to the specialized services that Maynard is equipped to provide to family business owners.”
Ms. Taylor was named to the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers.
