Maynard is pleased to announce Shareholders Andrew Nix, Starr Turner Drum, and Stephen Bumgarner have been elected to the Birmingham Bar Association’s 2020 Executive Committee. Andrew Nix will serve as President, Starr Drum as Executive Committee Place 1, and Stephen Bumgarner as Chair of the Federal Practice Section.

Andrew Nix, a Shareholder in Maynard’s Corporate Securities & Tax Section, will serve as President of the Birmingham Bar Association in 2020. Andrew served as President-Elect of the Bar in 2019 and has held numerous other leadership positions within both the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association, including Chair of the Leadership Forum Section of the Alabama State Bar, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Bar, and President of the Young Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar.

Andrew’s focus is in the areas of corporate and securities law, representing both private and publicly held companies in mergers and acquisitions. In addition to advising businesses in connection with a broad range of general corporate matters, he represents public companies in public securities offerings. He regularly assists publicly held clients with insider ownership reporting, as well as annual, quarterly and current reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Shareholder Starr Turner Drum will serve on the Executive Committee Place 1 of the Birmingham Bar Association. Starr has previously held the positions of Treasurer of the Women Lawyers Section Board and Executive Committee member within the Birmingham Bar Association.

Starr has extensive experience in internationally-compliant privacy and information governance plans and has successfully represented clients in privacy and data breach regulatory investigations and civil litigation. She has assisted organizations in the assessment of privacy and cybersecurity risks associated with potential acquisition targets. She also assists clients with resolving brandjacking, username squatting, and other intellectual property issues related to control over their online and social media presence.

Shareholder Stephen Bumgarner, of Maynard’s Insurance and Financial Services Litigation practice group, will serve as Chair of the Federal Practice Section for the Birmingham Bar Association. Stephen has previously held the Alabama Bar Association position of Chair of the Business Torts & Antitrust Law Section and Birmingham Bar Association positions of Secretary/Treasurer of the Federal Practice Section, and Chair of the Civil Courts Procedure Committee.

Stephen’s practice includes business litigation, class actions, and complex commercial disputes, as well as the representation of health care providers and manufacturers in a cross-section of litigation matters. Stephen has significant experience in successfully defending complex allegations for numerous clients.
