Overview

Matt’s practice focuses on the defense of financial institutions and insurance companies in both complex civil litigation and arbitration. Matt has extensive experience defending broker-dealers and other financial institutions in a wide range of litigation, including suitability, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, sales practice violations, options trading, and third-party lien matters. Moreover, Matt is comfortable analyzing and distilling complex financial data. Alongside his financial services practice, Matt also works in the insurance field. He has represented third-party administrators, plans, plan administrators, and employers in ERISA and non-ERISA benefit claim disputes brought by participants and beneficiaries of life, health, disability, and accidental death and dismemberment plans.

Matt has experience handling cases throughout the litigation process, but he is also proficient in pre-dispute resolution, often avoiding the need for costly litigation through informal settlement discussions or mediation. Furthermore, Matt has experience in the management of large-scale e-discovery.

Matt earned his J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a B.S. in Behavioral Sciences.
