Maynard Cooper & Gale is proud to announce that Sarah Jane Thielman, a sophomore at Washington and Lee University, is the first recipient of the George F. Maynard III – Birmingham Chapter Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is a permanently endowed fund at Washington and Lee University that provides support to undergraduate students from Birmingham, Ala. Thielman is a 2012 graduate of Briarwood Christian High School.

The original scholarship fund was created in 1992 as the Birmingham Chapter Scholarship, and was renamed in 2013 in memory of George F. Maynard III, one of the founders of Maynard Cooper. He attended Harvard Law School for one year and received his LL.B. degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1956. In 1984, Maynard was the senior member of 26 lawyers who decided to form a new law firm in Birmingham, Ala. At the time of his death in 2009, Maynard Cooper had grown to over 200 attorneys serving clients across a broad range of practice areas in offices throughout Alabama.
